Holiday Jobs- Why You Might Need One
Its the time of year to spread holiday cheer through giving, eating and spending loads of money. This is a busy time for the worldwide economy, so why not take advantage of the extra jobs during this time? The benefits of having employment for the holidays don’t you stop at just having a little extra spending money, there’s a few more reasons why you might want to work a little more during the “most wonderful time of the year.”
The number one obvious benefit would be to have extra cash for your holiday spending. It’s definitely very helpful from the budgeting aspect to have a separate stream of income earmarked for your holiday shopping. If you aren’t looking to spend much for Christmas, you could use the extra cash to pay down debt or add to your emergency fund.
A temporary holiday job could turn out to be long term if you play your cards right. This job opportunity could provide an entryway for the job market newbies into the working world. Many retailers are looking for lots of labor during this busy time and need to fill up spots quickly. They will likely have less stringent, drawn out interview processes for these temporary positions. If you get a foot in the door and are able to perform well during the holidays, you may be asked to stay permanently. This seasonal employment phenomenon is not partial to retail. Think about parcel services, customer service providers and small offices whose business picks up during the holidays as well.
Again if you are a spender, having a holiday job will help you mentally connect holiday spending with labor needed to buy gifts. You might be more likely to be a tad bit more frugal once you figure out it that takes you 2 days of work to buy that Keurig for your sister-in-law.
Many people suffer from depression and sadness due to the seasonal change. This can also be a stressful time due to dealing with familial issues. Having something productive, meaningful and intentional to do can help distract people and get them out of the house for regular doses of movement, sunshine and fresh air- all things that help brighten moods for those who suffer from seasonal mood issues.
